Want to know how many people are visiting your favorite website? That’s pretty simple, using some free online tools. Access such statistics at Compete.com or Alexa.com. Their data is gathered using a panel of a couple million Internet users. You can also check out Quantcast.com, which gives you traffic statistics but also estimates gender, age, race, household income and other demographic information using the company’s panel. Quantcast’s service is popular with media buyers, but requires site publishers to opt-in to generate the most accurate information. Quantcast’s method is different than Compete’s so statistics sometimes vary, and Alexa is great for the “long tail” of websites.
